|
Dire Straits were a British Rock band of the 1970’s & 80’s who initially found more success in the US with their classic song ‘Sultans of Swing’. Dire Straits were championed by Radio Presenter Charlie Gillett who is credited with giving the band exposure which was to lead to their first recording contract. The first two albums were to contain the definitive Dire Straits guitar dominated style with a straight forward approach that created the identity for the band. Later albums became more complex and grandiose but as always the immaculate highly stylized Mark Knopfler’s guitar sound was always the saviour of some of the more lengthy tracks on ‘Brothers in Arms’ in 1985. |

By the early 1990’s a reformed version of the band began to ‘power down’ and called time. Dire Straits had become one of the biggest selling acts of all time leaving behind some of the most evocative & memorable and songs to remember them by. Guitarists Mark Knopfler and David Knopfler continue as solo artistes. Classic tracks include ‘Sultans of Swing’,‘Down to The Waterline’ & ‘Lady Writer’. |
