Jefferson Airplane are the most iconic of all the American Psychedelic West Coast Bands with such a magical array of talent and songs that still resonate today. Formed as a folk/rock group in 1965 in San Francisco the band were to change direction in 1967 with the arrival of Grace Slick, who was to partner Marty Balin on lead vocals. With so many great songwriters and musicians within ‘The Airplane’ they were destined to become the most successful band from San Francisco in the late 1960’s. They appeared at The Monterey Pop Festival in 1967 and also at Woodstock in 1969, having been pioneers themselves of free concerts. |

Grace Slick was one of the most charismatic female vocalists of her time. Check out her stunning performance at Woodstock. ‘The Airplane’ came down to earth in the early 70’s only to take off again as Jefferson Starship. Listen to ‘White Rabbit’, ‘Somebody To Love’ and ‘Have You Seen The Saucers’. Their classic albums are Surrealistic Pillow, Crown of Creation and their live album from 1969 Bless It’s Pointed Little Head. Essential Listening! |
