Jefferson Starship |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Jefferson Starship was the next musical progression for members of The Airplane who wanted to fly a mothership to new musical heights. Jefferson Starship was to start with a number of recording projects in the early 1970’s with the Classic ‘West Coast’ Album ‘Baron Von Tollbooth & The Chrome Nun’ in 1973 which featured all the members of ‘The Airplane’ but created a musical launch pad for the nucleus of the band who were Paul Kantner, Grace Slick, Marty Balin, Pappa John Creach, David Freiberg and an amazing eighteen year old guitarist Craig Chaquico. Huge commercial success was to follow with million seller albums ‘Red Octopus’ in 1975 and Spitfire in 1976. |

Grace Slick was to leave at the end of the ’70’s to be replaced by Mickey Thomas who had a similar vocal range. As they moved into the 1980’s they developed a more rocky edge to their music with ‘Freedom at Point Zero’ heralding the change that followed with ‘Modern Times’ in 1981. Jefferson Starship were a ‘supergroup’ of the 70’s 80’s, but Captain Kantner still steers the mothership down the ‘time coast’. Classic tracks include ‘Jane’,‘Caroline’, and also ‘Count on Me’. |
