We join the West Coast rock fraternity in wishing guitarist Johnny Echols a happy birthday (born 21st February 1947).
Johnny Echols is the surviving original member of the legendary Psychedelic Rock Band Love, formed by Johnny and front man Arthur Lee in 1965. Johnny Echols was responsible for some of the finest lead guitar parts on the first three Love albums, just take a listen to great tracks like the classic “7 & 7 is” and “This House is Not a Motel”, and you then realise the contribution that Johnny Echols made in creating original and timeless music with Love, one of the most important and influential bands of the late 1960’s.
Arthur Lee himself recommended that The Doors be given a recording contract based upon the intensity of their live performances. Jim Morrison and Co were to eventually record with the Electra label…..The Doors were open!
Love and The Doors still appear down “the time coast” on The Rock of Ages Radio Show with Lucas Campbell. This music and the great performances by these unique artists will not be forgotten, even though “Forever Changes”.
