Steppenwolf

Steppenwolf are ‘the bikers band’, their song ‘Born To Be Wild’ which contained the line Heavy Metal Thunder inspired so many more bands to play faster & louder. ‘The Wolf’ arrived in San Francisco in 1967 inspired like so many others to make a name for themselves on The West Coast. Like other bands of the late 1960’s they moved from Rhythm & Blues into Psychedelic Rock.

The transition was a stunning success selling singles and albums by the million. Much of the success must be attributed to front man and main songwriter John Kay whose macho persona and political stance was etched into each and every Steppenwolf performance either on disc or in concert. This band will always remain one of the great pioneers of early west coast rock having produced such great songs as ‘The Pusher’, ‘Rock Me’, ‘Hippo Stomp’ and ‘Magic Carpet Ride’.
